Product Description & Use:
SMART STRIP is a revolutionary paint remover that is safe for the user,
the substrate and the environment. This 100% biodegradable, water-based
remover is extremely effective for removing multiple layers of architectural
and industrial coatings from virtually all interior/exterior surfaces –
wood, brick, metal, concrete, stone, plaster, fiberglass, etc. This product
does not contain methylene chloride or caustic and VOC is zero. SMART STRIP
is exceptional for safe removal of lead based paint and is excellent for
intricate, carved or molded surfaces. Because it is a paste, SMART STRIP
is easily applied by brush, roller or conventional airless spray. It is
formulated to remain wet and effective over extended periods of time and
does not require the use of Peel Away Paper. Peel Away Paper may be purchased
separately when needed.

Test Area

type surface/coating to be removed before general use to determine
compatibility, yield, proper thickness and dwell time needed.

Surface Preparation:
Remove any loose or peeling paint prior to application. Mask/protect areas
where stripping is not desired. Polyethylene (plastic sheets) and masking
tape create an effective barrier. Be sure to protect flooring. Plants and
other foliage should be covered or rinsed thoroughly before and during application.
NOTE: SMART STRIP will not affect glass, aluminum or plastic surfaces.
Application & Spread Rate:
Using a brush, roller or airless spray, apply approximately 1/6in to 1/8in
thick (refer to test patch results) according number of layers, and type
of coating being removed. Airless spray is the most cost effective way to
apply the product. Start at the lowest pressure setting and slowly build
pressure until an adequate fan pattern has been achieved. When trying to
build film thickness of the remover, two separate applications are recommended.
Apply a light first coat and allow it to tack for about 30 minutes. Then
apply a second coat to build the film to the desired thickness. SMART STRIP
provides an average spread rate of 45 - 50 sq. ft. per gallon.
Dwell Time:
The time required for softening/lifting paint will vary according to the
number of layers, type of coating being removed and surface temperature.
Average dwell time rangers from 3 to 24 hours. (Refer to test patch results).
NOTE: SMART STRIP is formulated to remain wet and effective over extended
periods of time and does not require the use of Peel Away Paper. (The use
of Peel Away Paper will accelerate the removal process and extend the dwell
time.)
Removal & Clean Up:
Remove softened/lifted paint using a scraper, taping knife or power washer.
Agitate surface residue with a stiff nylon brush or scouring pad, paying
particular attention to crevices, grooves and cracks. Exterior stripped
surfaces should be rinsed thoroughly with a power washer. Interior surfaces
can be rinsed using a sponge and water or denatured alcohol. Collect paste
and paint residue in plastic bags and dispose of in compliance with local
government regulations. Clean up airless sprayer by running water or denatured
alcohol through the equipment soon after application has been completed.
Allow surface to dry thoroughly before repainting.
Limitations:
For best results, surface temperatures should be 50ºF – 95ºF. Product can
be applied as low as 32ºF, however, efficiency/effectiveness is reduced
and dwell time increased.

While SMART STRIP is formulated to be safe for the user, surface
and environment, proper safety procedures should be followed at
all times. Wear gloves, goggles and other protective clothing as
needed. Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for important
health/safety information before handling.
